A letter from Paul and Mirlin on our 5 Year Anniversary, October 25, 2024

Oct 26, 2024

A crazy 5 years

And yet…

We’re still happy to be in Asheville, despite all that has happened over the course of the past five years. Today is October 25, 2024 and exactly 5 years ago Mirlin and I took ownership of The Reynolds Mansion. We had fallen in love with the house and property and also with Asheville and its surrounds. After much research, thought and chats (and wine) over what life would be like in the mountains, we had made the commitment to move to Asheville.

It’s 1pm now and, around the same time 5 years ago, we had a laugh and grinned at each other after having cleared up following our first breakfast service at the inn. Breakfast ends at 10am, and several guests, regulars and first timers new to the inn had lingered to chat, get to know us a bit and congratulate us on making the purchase. We had a full house and Billy and Mike, from whom we had bought the inn, had stayed to get us through our first breakfast service.  We said tearful goodbyes and off they went. We were all starting new chapters in our lives and careers. There was joy, anticipation, adrenaline and yes, even some sadness.

Since then, we’ve proven ourselves worthy of owning The Reynolds Mansion (to it’s regular guests), made many new friends and accumulated enough stories to last a lifetime. We’ve listened to new and other perspectives, shared laughs, argued economics, talked politics, and celebrated many anniversaries and other milestones with our guests. We’ve borne witness to marriage vows and proposals, promises of overseas trips and new corvettes. We’ve even said goodbye to a few…

We’ve lived through the Covid-19 pandemic, water outages and burst pipes, the recession, and survived Helene. Now we’re experiencing the generosity of others and celebrating the human spirit. It hasn’t always been a smooth ride but, we’re here and we plan to stay, get back on our feet, open our doors and welcome our guests back to Asheville and The Reynolds Mansion.

Thank you to all who have called, texted, emailed and sent messages of support to us and to our community!

We look forward to the next 5 years!

Paul and Mirlin
