Location and Getting Here
Where is The Reynolds Mansion located?
The Reynolds Mansion is a historic bed and breakfast at 100 Reynolds Heights in north Asheville, North Carolina, set on four acres at the base of Reynolds Mountain. Built in 1847, it is one of fewer than ten pre-Civil War brick homes surviving in western North Carolina and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. A few other historic inns in the United States share the Reynolds Mansion name — including one in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania — but those are separate, unrelated properties. Ours is the 1847 mansion in Asheville, NC.
How far is the mansion from downtown Asheville and the Biltmore Estate?
Downtown Asheville's restaurants, breweries, and galleries are about a ten-minute drive. The Biltmore Estate is roughly nine miles away, and the Blue Ridge Parkway is an easy drive from our door. The mansion itself sits in a private mountain setting with panoramic Blue Ridge views — close to everything, yet a genuine retreat from it.
How far is the Asheville airport?
Asheville Regional Airport (AVL) is about a 30-minute drive from the mansion. Detailed driving directions from every direction are on our Getting Here page.
Is parking available?
Yes — free private off-street parking is available for all guests, right on the property.
Booking and Policies
What are the check-in and check-out times?
Check-in is between 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM, and check-out is at 11:00 AM. If you expect to arrive outside the check-in window, let us know in advance and we'll make arrangements.
Can children stay at The Reynolds Mansion?
We welcome guests 16 years of age and older, accompanied by a parent or guardian. Our historic home and quiet atmosphere are best suited to older teens and adults.
Are dogs welcome?
Yes — dogs up to 35 pounds are welcome in our three Carriage House suites, each with its own private entrance and easy access to the grounds. The dog fee is $40 per day plus applicable taxes, and current vaccination records are required seven days before check-in. Dogs stay in the Carriage House rather than the main Reynolds Residence. What is your cancellation policy?

What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and cash. American Express is not accepted.
Is the property non-smoking?
Yes. The Reynolds Mansion is a non-smoking property, including vaping, in all guest rooms, common areas, porches, and grounds.
Your Stay
How many rooms does the mansion have?
Eleven in all — eight guest rooms in the historic Reynolds Residence, each individually decorated with antique furnishings, private baths, and gas fireplaces, plus three larger suites in the Carriage House just across the courtyard. Explore them on our Stay pages.
Which room is right for me?
It depends on what you're after — a clawfoot tub, a mountain view, a Jacuzzi, a private deck. Our Compare Rooms page puts every room side by side so you can choose with confidence, or simply call us and tell us what the occasion is. Matching guests to the right room is something we genuinely enjoy.
Is Wi-Fi available?
Yes — complimentary Wi-Fi is available throughout the property.
Is the mansion wheelchair accessible?
The Reynolds Mansion is a pre-Civil War home protected under a preservation easement, so structural modifications are not permitted, and all guest rooms and common areas in the main house require stairs. If you have mobility concerns, please call us before booking — we'll talk honestly about what will and won't work for your stay.

What is breakfast like at The Reynolds Mansion?
Breakfast is the heart of a stay here. Every morning at 9:00 AM, a four-course gourmet breakfast is served in the grand dining room, prepared by your chef-innkeeper Paul Manshon, who trained classically and spent three decades in luxury hospitality. Can you accommodate dietary restrictions?
Yes — tell us about dietary restrictions or food allergies before booking and Paul will plan your courses around them. Guests with restrictions eat as well as everyone else at this table.
History
How old is The Reynolds Mansion?
The mansion was built in 1847 by Colonel Daniel Reynolds, making it one of the oldest brick homes in western North Carolina and the oldest property among Asheville's bed and breakfasts by more than four decades. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and protected under a preservation easement. Guests aren't just sleeping in an old house — they're being hosted in a home that has witnessed nearly two centuries of American history. Our History page tells the full story.
What is the mansion's connection to the Hope Diamond?
Through the Reynolds family — including Senator Robert Rice Reynolds, "Buncombe Bob" — the home has ties to Evalyn Walsh McLean, the last private owner of the Hope Diamond. A replica of the diamond, with its Smithsonian provenance card, is on display in the mansion. It's one of the stories guests love hearing over breakfast, and it's told in full on our History page.
